Portugal Edge Spain On Pens – Nations League Glory
By Footy Fella
Right lads and lasses, what a finish that was! Portugal crowned Nations League champs after a tense night in Munich. 5-3 on pens after a 2-2 cracker — plenty to chat about over a pint this week.
How It Went Down
Spain started the brighter of the two. Zubimendi slotted home after 21 minutes — tidy finish. Portugal didn’t panic though. Young Nuno Mendes burst forward and smashed one in to level it up.
Spain nicked the lead again just before the break — Oyarzabal on the scoresheet. But Portugal had that bit of fight in them. Who else but Ronaldo to pop up in the second half? The man’s still got it. Volleyed one home to make it 2-2 and set up a nervy finish.
Extra-time didn’t offer much — both sides looked leggy. So, it went to pens. And fair play to Portugal — nerves of steel. All five spot-kicks buried. Spain blinked first — Morata dragged his wide. Up stepped Rúben Neves to slot the winner. Job done.
Footy Fella’s Verdict
Portugal — proper tournament team these days. Might not always play champagne stuff, but they know how to manage these games. Ronaldo’s still leading by example. And how about young Mendes? Looked a real player.
Spain? Plenty of flair, but you need that ruthless edge in finals. They’ll be back, but they’ll have to learn from this.
Looking Ahead
I’d be keeping an eye on Portugal’s odds for the Euros, lads. They’ve got experience, they’ve got young legs coming through, and they’ve got Ronaldo — still hungry as ever. Don’t be shocked if they’re lifting more silverware next summer.
Final Word
Big moments win trophies. Portugal had the bottle on the night. Ronaldo’s still writing the headlines, and the rest of that squad’s looking solid.
If you’re thinking of a flutter for the Euros, do your homework, bet smart, and keep it fun. There’ll be plenty of value to sniff out before the odds shift.
Catch you next time. Footy Fella out.
